A&R is featured with the Zero Energy House in 425 Magazine
February, 2010
Our work is featured on the cover of 425 Magazine's January/February 2010 issue. A vital component
of the Zero Energy House, our 5.4kW SunPower Solar array allows them to reach "net zero" energy usage. The Z-House boasts advanced construction techniques
to minimize energy consumption and uses active solar photovoltaics, solar thermal, and a wind turbine to generate its own heat and power.
A&R Founder Reeves Clippard on Microsoft Hohm
September 09, 2009Last week Founder Reeves Clippard got a chance to talk solar energy and energy efficiency with the folks at the Microsoft Hohm project. They met for an interview at Seattle's Greenlake. Right after the interview they took a brief sidewalk tour of one of A&R Solar's photovoltaic projects. You can tour the same house during the National Solar Tour (Find out more at Solar Washington's home page.) The day began quite sunny, but turned a little windy and wet by the end of the video shoot. You can see the video of the interview on Microsoft Hohm's blog and at YouTube.
A&R Solar Completes Washington's First SunPower System
July 17, 2009Washington State's first SunPower solar array went on-line this week in the Greenlake area of Seattle. The system includes (16) All-Black SPR-225 solar panels for a total of 3.60 kW. The system also incorporates SunPower's proprietary Monitoring System, which uses a wireless LCD interface inside the home and allows you to access your system's performance on-line at any time. SunPower also provides a free application that allows system owners to view their performance directly from their iPhone or iTouch. Click here to see live data of Washington's first SunPower PV Array!
Photos of the installation will be added to our Portfolio soon.
A&R Solar Installs Solar Water Heating System on Seattle Aquarium
May 22, 2009A&R Solar recently completed the installation of (5) five Heliodyne Gobi 4'x8' flat-plate solar hot water collectors on the Seattle Aquarium. The new system is going to assist with the Aquarium Cafe's heating load while serving as both a public solar demonstration and an educational tool for visitors. The system incorporates a monitoring device that will allow visitors to see how the system is performing in real time. A custom frame was constructed in order to hold the array and protect it from strong winds coming off the water.
Huge thanks go out to the Seattle Aquarium for making a very big statement about the possibilities of using solar energy and for being so great to work with during the installation process. Additional thanks go out to Seattle City Light and Puget Sound Energy for helping to fund the project and for continuing to educate their customers about solar energy.
